What this tool does

Court paperwork in England and Wales is a maze of numbered forms, and picking the wrong one can delay your case or cost you a fee you did not need to pay. This tool helps you work out which form fits your situation, where to download it, what it costs to submit, and whether you can apply for help with the fee.

It covers the main civil areas most people run into, including divorce and other family matters, money claims, possession and housing issues, small claims, and tribunal applications such as employment or benefits appeals.

When to use it

Use it if you know roughly what you want to do but are stuck on the admin. For example, you want to apply for a child arrangements order but are not sure whether you need a C100 or something else, or you are trying to get a deposit back from a landlord and do not know if it is a money claim or a housing case.

It is aimed at people without a solicitor, McKenzie friends, and advisers at law centres or Citizens Advice who want a quick pointer before checking the detail on GOV.UK. It is not legal advice, and it will not fill the forms in for you or tell you whether your case is likely to succeed. If your situation is complex or urgent, please speak to a qualified adviser as well.

How it works

Tell the tool what you are trying to do in your own words, or pick from a few prompts if it is easier. You will be asked one or two follow up questions to narrow things down, such as whether children are involved or how much money is in dispute. You then get a short plain English summary with the form number, a link to the official version, the current fee, and a note on fee remission if it may apply. Your answers are not saved once you leave the page.
